Maritime Silk Road Express

This is the final project for the course Serious Games Development in MSc Serious Games and Virtual Reality at the Glasgow School of Art. It’s an interdisciplinary project in collaboration with MSc Heritage Visualisation.

About the Game

In the Maritime Silk Road Express, players take on the role of a delivery company employee, which provides them with reasonable and responsible motivation for their learning behaviour. Customers can come from Central Asia, Japan, the 16th century, or even the 18th century, and their backgrounds are closely related to the Silk Road. This allows players to learn about the maritime Silk Road systematically and encourages interdisciplinary thinking. 

 Players need to know about relevant cultural relics by analysing customer needs and browsing item information to complete the game quest. Then, players will experience the work of cultural relic restorers or curators through a series of interactive mini-games, which will simulate various aspects of cultural relic restoration, allowing players to actively participate. Once the restoration is complete, players will package the restored items and send them out. This experience will provide players with a sense of achievement and fulfilment while emphasising the importance of cultural relic restoration and preservation. After fulfilling each customer's request, players receive immediate feedback from the customers, which helps assess their learning outcomes.
